Child Star Sophie Nyweide Died Unexpectedly at 24 — New Details Emerge

The young star’s sudden death stunned her loved ones — but as her family breaks their silence, the tragedy deepens with revelations that shed light on the final moments of her life.

Sophie Nyweide, a former child star known for her roles in “Mammoth” and “An Invisible Sign,” was found dead at just 24 years old in her hometown of Bennington, Vermont.

Her mother, Shelly Gibson, confirmed the tragic news and wrote in part on social media, “RIP, my Sophie […] I want her back. Fly high sweetheart — you always could.”

Police said Nyweide’s body was discovered near the Roaring Branch River around 5 a.m. on April 14, not far from a high school and a makeshift lean-to. Authorities responded to a 911 call from a man who had been with Sophie at the time. While he is cooperating, police are not ruling out foul play.

In a devastating revelation, her death certificate noted that Sophie was pregnant. Her mother suspects an accidental drug overdose. Gibson also revealed haunting new details in an interview with the Daily Mail. “She had been [using drugs] for quite a while,” she said, adding, “My expectation is that it will be a drug overdose.”
