Twin Toddlers Die After Walk to the Store With Their Mother – Details

What began as a simple walk on a summer evening became a nightmare. A mother struck down, her twin toddlers torn from her arms, and an entire community left clinging to grief, outrage, and prayers for healing.
Twin brothers, Bradley and Noah, have died after a suspected impaired driver struck them and their mother, Mollie Egold, while they were walking to a store in Albion, Maine. The crash happened Friday evening, July 11, 2025, on Hussey Road and has devastated the tight-knit community.
According to Maine State Police, 33-year-old Mollie was pushing her sons in a stroller near 60 Hussey Hill Road when 44-year-old Benjamin Lancaster, also of Albion, allegedly hit them from behind with his car and fled the scene.
He was later arrested and charged with manslaughter, three counts of aggravated criminal OUI, and three counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury or death.
As reported by WGME 13 News, Lancaster appeared in Kennebec County court on Monday, July 14, 2025, where a judge set his cash bail at $100,000. If released, he must avoid alcohol and drugs, submit to random testing, refrain from driving, and have no contact with the victims’ family.
Bradley was pronounced dead at the scene. His twin brother, Noah, was flown via LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he remained in critical condition over the weekend.
According to a GoFundMe campaign started by family friend Karen Silva Deveau, Noah was declared brain dead on July 13, 2025, and taken off life support on July 15.
Mollie, who was also airlifted after the crash, is being treated in the ICU in Bangor. She remains in critical but stable condition and has already undergone two surgeries to treat multiple broken bones, the fundraiser noted.
In her campaign message, Karen wrote:
“On July 11th, Mollie was walking to the store with her twin 2 and 1/2 yr old boys in a cart. A hit and run driver struck them just minutes after leaving and later was apprehended… One twin, Bradley died at the scene… Noah tested for the 3rd consecutive day to be brain dead on 7/15 and was taken off life support. He is with Bradley in Heaven [sic].”

Karen added that the funds raised will help the family purchase a burial plot for the twins. Local resident Rocky Fuller, who discovered the aftermath, shared with WGME, “I was down behind my house. And when I got about here with my truck, I see her laying there and the two kids laying over there [sic].”
He immediately called 911 as neighbors came to help. He didn’t witness the collision but said the road is open and visible:
“As you can see up the road, you can see, what, a quarter of a mile. To me, there’s no way that should have happened. I think he’s going to get the book thrown at him, which he should.”
Mollie had only recently started working at the 202 General Store in Albion. Her coworker, Elsie Barnett, expressed her shock, “It’s awful. When my boss texted me, I was like, ‘You got to be kidding me. How does that happen?’ She just comes here and gets something for the kids and goes home.”
Authorities are urging residents with surveillance or doorbell footage from Main Street or Hussey Road between 5 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Friday to come forward.
In an interview with CBS13 News, the twins’ grandmother, Martha Collins, described the moment she realized one of the boys had died, “All of a sudden, I saw them put a blanket over Bradley’s face, and that was it for me. I knew he was gone.”
Martha shared that even though Noah had sustained fractures and was gravely injured, she believed he sensed her presence at the scene before being transported to the hospital, where he died. “His eyes were open, looking at me. He knew I was there,” she said.

When asked if she had prayed for Noah’s survival, she responded, “Oh yeah. I think I prayed without stopping for the last four days. I wanted that baby to live.” Speaking about the accused, she said, “He took away our babies. He took away our life, our family. That man should be charged with murder, not manslaughter. This is murder. He murdered my babies.”
In a statement shared through a family friend to Legacy Chronicle, Martha added, “There are no words for the pain we’re enduring. Bradley and Noah were light and laughter. Mollie is fighting with everything she has. We thank every single person who has reached out, prayed, or given support. We feel your love.”
The family also mourns with another five-year-old child, Connor, who continues to grieve the loss of his brothers. “Connor lost his little brothers. He’s crying, he’s upset, he wants us to go get him new little brothers. How do you explain it to a five-year-old? And he’s just, he’s broken. I’m broken,” Martha said emotionally.
In addition to the GoFundMe, donations are being collected at the 202 General Store. A church supper fundraiser is also planned to support the family. The family has also requested privacy in this time of grief as Mollie recovers.
The loss of the twins marks the second heartbreaking tragedy for the family. Mollie lost her first son, William Egold, in 2017 in a canoe accident. The boy, though wearing a life vest, drowned after getting caught in underwater debris near a waterfall.
As the town of Albion stands beside the Egold family once more, hearts ache for justice. But this time, they’re also demanding lasting change.
